The story behind the photographs
Romano Bucher is an analogue photographer based in Uster / Zürich
Art photography is one of my ways of expressing feelings and life circumstances. In my search for details in rural and urban landscapes, I want to capture their beauty in detail.
Abstract patterns in nature, reflections or geometric shapes draw attention to my personal perspective. The absence of human life in their legacies gives me a sense of balance.
As I work in the area of social work, my days are usually filled with social interactions in support of others. In my photography I want to express the opposite of this embedded environment, away from social interactions, in solitude, in isolation.
My mechanical analogue cameras are at the heart of my work. Working with such an elegant and refined tool gives me the opportunity to capture and reflect on my work in the moment itself. The simple nature of analogue photography forces me to take a small number of images. The long process requires patience, which is definitely one of my learning fields. Shooting in black and white shows me the sometimes harsh contrast of the present.
